Oh my goodness it feels like Fall! I can finally dive into my Fall recipes! I have so many to enjoy. The first one of the season I am trying is my homemade crockpot apple butter. I have never made this one before so I am super excited that it turned out so delicious.
My husband and I visited our nearest apple orchard. I was sad that they didn’t have a u pick option but I was still happy to get a bunch of apples to take home!
I realized after we bought them that I hadn’t thought it through because we were leaving for a weekend trip out of town and between homework and packing I didn’t have time to make the apple butter before I left.
When we got back though, the apples were perfect for cooking with! So, I went to work peeling the apples and cutting out the seeds (I don’t have a corer yet!).
I then put the apple chunks in my crockpot tossed them with the ingredients.
After that, the crockpot did the work for me! Some people puree their apples first with the ingredients but I skipped this step and found I liked the texture!
Here is the recipe:
What you’ll need:
1 1/2 lbs of apples
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 TBSP cinnamon
1 TBSP Vanilla
Peel and core your apples. Then slice them into fourths. Add your sugar, cinnamon, and brown sugar. I poured it over the apples in parts then used my hands to mix them together. Then I added the rest of the ingredients, tossing again with my hands. All three apples should be covered pretty well.
Turn your crockpot on low and message overnight (about 8 hours). When you wake, use s potato masher to get rid of the big bumps. Add the vanilla and a little more cinnamon and sugar to taste.
Then leave on low for another hour. Serve warm or cool. (Best warm!!!) Store in an air tight jar frozen for up to two months.
Serve on almost any bread and even in your oatmeal!!!
